What Caused the Vietnam WarIn Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh is a communist leader. North Vietnam was communist, though the South was not. The US president at the time says they will not get involved in Vietnam. “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex.” Ngo Diem, leader of South Vietnam refused to hold free elections in 1956. The National Liberation Front formed to fight politically for a unified country. U.S. believed the war in Vietnam was sponsored by Hanoi, which in turn was acting as the agent of Peking (China). If one country fell to communism, others were to follow, thus they attempted to stop this by not getting directly involved... at first.
